Cross Country Ongar Tuesday 15th January

Written by James S - Birch Class

32 of us travelled to Ongar Primary School for our cross country competition against 7 other local schools. Apart from some drizzly rain, we were really lucky with the weather, not too cold and perfect for a long run.

We were shown around the course we would run. Everybody was saying that as it was so long we were going to have to do 1 lap. It turned out year 5/6 had to do 3 laps - 1 mile! Year 3/4 had to do 2 laps. We were all a bit shocked but we had to live with it. In fact, we were all a bit worried we wouldn’t be able to finish it especially as there was a massive hill and lots of mud.

Year 5/6 ran the first races and then year 3/4. There were about 50 runners in each race. As we ran there was lots of cheering and encouragement from the other children and spectators. This was the best bit of the run - hearing everyone supporting and clapping made me want to run even faster. I even managed a big sprint as I came to the finish line. We all did so well getting round the course and some of us got some good places . There were 3rd places and lots in the top 10.

Everybody in my school persevered with all their might and didn’t give up. We were all really pleased and proud with what we had achieved. I would definitely like to go again, if I had the chance, because it was an honour to represent my school at the Ongar Cross Country Run.

Thank you James!
